Jihan, of Fashion Bomb Daily, asked Sam Fine, celebrity makeup artist and creative makeup director of Fashion Fair, what he thought was the biggest beauty mistake women of color make…
“I think the biggest beauty mistake is really not wearing makeup”, Fine replied. His opinion is that women of color don’t understand how to use makeup in a way that naturally enhances their own beauty. Just knowing how to apply pressed power, learning how to use lip gloss and learning how to use mascara; are the basics and the least intimidating, once you get past the shade of powder, he says. There are two other pieces Fine believes a woman should have in her makeup bag. To begin there should be some kind of a coverage product; a concealer, or a foundation that you can use as a concealer. Underneath the eyes is the thinnest area of skin, so you really want to make sure that any redness or discoloration can be covered. Also powder, it’s going to set the foundation or the concealer so it can stay on longer. I always say powder is to foundation what topcoat is to nail polish. It really holds it in place and keeps it from rubbing off and settling in fine lines.
Fine believes ‘makeup is a personality, everyones personality is a little different. There’s no mistake other than not participating.’
So ladies, would more of you wear makeup if you had a better understanding or more knowledge of the art of color?
